Institute of Microbiology

The Institute consists of three divisions that are divided into departments, specialist groups and working groups. Each of them deals with a specific theme like a special pathogen (e.g. Bacillus anthracis) or a disease pattern (e.g. Hemorrhagic Fevers). Specialist groups use a methodological and technical approach and work cross-sectional in the whole range of our themes. Stationary special biothreat diagnostics are concentrated in the Central Diagnostic Unit, which is part of Division III and also represents the accredited component of the Institute. The Institute currently accomodates three national consultant laboratories that are operated by the respective working groups.
